For the parents

Our unique children's program offers a lot more than self-defense and physical agility. Our education martial arts program and unique and achievement program will teach your child respect, manners, safety and much more.

But the best part of all, is that the Martial Arts will give your child self-discipline to study. This leads to increased concentration at school, which often pays off in the form of better grades. Our programs are also designed to promote self-confidence and self-esteem.

Recent studies have shown that programs which focus on personal achievement, such as martial arts, are vastly more effective in this area than the team sports.

A typical class

For kids below 7 years old the class is 30 minutes and 45 minutes between 7 and 10. During a class of 45 minutes we would normally have the following activities:
- 5 minutes of warm up exercises
- 5 minutes of races or exercises
- 5 minutes of basic techniques
- 10 minutes of kata
- 5 minutes of focus pads
- 10 minutes of Games (Tag war / Jumping Rope / Wrestling, etc...)
- 5 minutes of talk about (Respect / Manners / etc...)

Special Occasions

IOGKF Canada (or Shudokan) holds many events in the year, like our friendship tournaments or other seasonal events that are both fun and a means of personal growth.  We encourage our children to participate in these events to build goals, to provide small challenges and especially to build self confidence.

For the kids

Karate teaches us strength, courage and self control.

We become string by training both our minds and our bodies. If we are respectful to our parents and pay attention to out teachers, our minds will grow and become strong.

We become courageous by being kind to other people and respecting one another's differences. We can also become more courageous by admitting our mistakes - even when we are affraid to do so.

True warriors or "karate-ka" never allow themselves to be provoked into violence. We must always try our very best to walk away from a fight. By keeping our karate training for ourselves, we learn self control.
